Ari Soglin, who published the blog Citizen Paine in the mid-2000s, is Northern California senior regional editor for Patch. Follow him on Twitter at @asoglin.

He is the former assistant managing editor for online content for Bay Area News Group-East Bay, which includes the Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune.

Ari also was online editor for the Times from 1999 to 2000. He left to become the founding editor of, one of the first citizen journalism networks. He also was an active citizen journalist, publishing occasional articles on, the GetLocalNews pilot site and winner of an Online News Association general excellence award.

Ari was a reporter and editor in the Contra Costa Times chain for 11 years after being a reporter for daily and weekly newspapers in California, from the Central Coast to the Wine Country. (Hearst Castle was once his beat.)

He paid $1,000 on eBay for a ticket to see the Chicago Cubs in the 2003 World Series. Fortunately, the seller provided a refund.
